State to High Court: Fuel supply to Gaza will resume today

In response to petition demanding end to Gaza blockade, State says fuel shipments to resume, but Israel will consider limiting supplies again if rocket fire continues

Israel will resume fuel shipments to Gaza today (Sunday), according to the State's response to a High Court petition recently filed by human rights groups Adalah and Gisha, which demanded an end to the Jewish state's blockade of the Strip.

However, the State Prosecutor's Office added in its response that "if the rocket fire continues, we will consider limiting the supplies again.

"The changing circumstances force us to reduce the fuel supplies at certain junctures and increase them in others," the State said.

Attorney Fatma al-Azu, who represented the petitioners at a special court session, said "the State is collectively punishing the citizens (of Gaza) in violation of international law."

The petition was filed a week-and-a-half ago following Defense Minister Ehud Barak's decision to impose the blockade with the aim of increasing pressure on the terror organizations and further sever Israel's economic ties to Hamas-controlled Gaza.

Last Tuesday several trucks made their way through the Nahal Oz fuel terminal, as Israel renewed the diesel and cooking-gas supply to the Gaza power stations.
